The veteran rock band had performed just five songs when, midway through their mammoth 1981 hit ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’, they were forced to vacate the stage at NRG Stadium during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on Friday (March 14).
A concert-goer later shared a video to X/Twitter, in which lead singer Arnel Pineda – who joined the band in 2007 – is seen singing the second verse of the song before the sound cuts out and the projector screens go dark.
The audience was palpably confused, but continued singing along regardless. Members of Journey’s crew later rushed to the stage with fire extinguishers, and per Billboard, the crowd was informed that the concert would not continue and that everyone needed to evacuate.

No injuries were reported.
Journey have not addressed the situation on social media, but the Houston Rodeo later issued an official statement about the cancellation on its Facebook page.
“Due to an unforeseen electrical incident under the stage area, we regretfully announce the cancellation of tonight’s Journey concert. We sincerely apologize to all fans for this disappointment,” the organization wrote. “Our team is working diligently to assess the situation, and we will provide updates regarding rescheduling options and refunds as soon as possible.”
Fans seemed in good spirits about the incident, with one joking on X/Twitter: “Watched Journey in a smoky room, the sound died in the middle of THAT tune.” Meanwhile, others expressed frustration with the venue, with one writing they had “never seen this in all my years” of attending it.

Elsewhere, last year the band’s keyboardist Cain filed a lawsuit against guitarist Schon while the band were on a co-headline tour in the US with Def Leppard, along with guests The Steve Miller Band and Cheap Trick. The suit was filed on grounds of frustrations over Schon’s “expenses related to the tour” including “budgeting and spending” of the band’s credit card over personal expenses.
Schon later revealed that the band opted to bring in “someone impartial” to help smooth over their differences.
