Pedro Pascal supports “icon” Rachel Zegler following ‘Snow White’ flop

Pedro Pascal has posted a message of support for Rachel Zegler, amidst the negative reception for the live-action remake of Snow White.

The Disney film, which was released March 21, was beset by numerous controversies prior to reaching cinemas. Zegler’s political opinions put her at odds with the studio, who reportedly hired a “social media guru” to vet her posts during the movie’s press tour.

The Golden Globe winner also experienced racist remarks due to her being a Latina actor cast in the role, which in past iterations has been a character described as having “skin as white as snow”. In 2023, she responded to the backlash, describing it as “nonsensical discourse”. “I hope every child knows they can be a princess no matter what”, she posted at the time

The film has had a disastrous opening in cinemas, making just $42.2million in the US, well below expectations considering the film’s estimated $240–270million budget. It would also achieve one of the lowest scores ever on IMDb (Internet Movie Database), currently sitting at 1.6 out of 10 from user-submitted ratings.

On March 30, a screenshot of Pascal’s Instagram story showed him posting a picture of the actor, with the caption “@RachelZegler #icon”. This support was echoed by Scream star Melissa Barrera, who shared posts describing an article about Zegler as a “hit piece” and posting that critical articles of both her and Rachel Zegler were written by the same journalist.

Pascal will next be seen in the second season of TV series The Last Of Us. Recently, co-star Bella Ramsey revealed that they have the actor saved in their phone as “Pedge”. “I hate calling him Pedro,” they revealed. “It feels so formal”.

Pascal also warned fans that The Last Of Us season two is “fucking heartbreaking” before calling the showrunners “sick people”.
