Ed Sheeran has built a pub called ‘The Old Phone’ in Ipswich, USA, named after his new song – watch him perform a Chappell Roan cover at the pub below.
The singer recently announced he would be releasing a forthcoming album ‘Play’, though no release date has been set. To celebrate, Sheeran has apparently built a pub in Ipswich, Massachussetts – the same name of his hometown in the UK – and turned up to perform some songs, including his forthcoming single ‘Azizam’.
Sheeran previously began teasing ‘Azizam’ earlier in March on social media, writing: “Album done. Single soon. I’m very excited as you can tell.”
Taking to Instagram on Sunday (March 31), Sheeran posted a reel singing ‘Azizam’, writing: “Built a pub in Ipswich MA for one night only. Did a trad jam with Beoga. ‘Azizam’ goes off, out April 4th gang”.
The singer also performed a cover of Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’. Fan-filmed footage shows the singer explaining his manager proposed Sheeran sing Roan’s smash hit for a segment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Sheeran, who learned the entire song in three days, eventually discovered only a verse was needed for the show, but played the cover at The Old Phone pub to honour the effort that went into it.

Sheeran recently explained he will release five more albums on Fallon, stopping at ten albums total. He revealed the move was inspired by director Quentin Tarantino, who also intentionally made ten films total under his name.
“I wanted to do 10,” Sheeran explained. “I’m kind of a bit obsessed with [Quentin] Tarantino, and I heard he was doing 10 films, and he’s got his side projects like Grindhouse. I wanna do my 10 and then every now and then do a side project.”
He also revealed the titles of his next five albums, which would take inspiration from the controls on a record player. Along with ‘Play’, these names will include ‘Pause’, ‘Fast Forward’, ‘Rewind’ and ‘Stop’ – an idea he says he had when he was 18.
In other news, Ed Sheeran has written an open letter to the UK government calling for immediate and long-term funding for music education.
