Delroy Lindo has revealed that he was actively involved in shaping Marvel‘s planned Blade reboot before the film fell apart – find out more below.
Since being announced in 2019 with Mahershala Ali attached to star as the titular character, Marvel’s Blade reboot has faced delay after delay. Most recently, the film was scheduled for a November 2025 release, but according to reports, Blade was quietly removed from Marvel’s schedule indefinitely.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Lindo – known for Sinners, Da 5 Bloods and Malcolm X among others – revealed that Marvel was “really interested” in his input for Blade, in which he was going to play an unspecified role.
Lindo explained: “In the various conversations I had with producers, the writer, the director at the time, it was all leading into being very inclusive. It was really exciting conceptually, but it was also exciting in terms of the character that was going to form. And then, for whatever reason, it just went off the rails.”

In June last year, Blade lost another director, Yann Demange. Demange reportedly left the project “amicably”, and no other update was given. Demange marked the second director to leave the film. Mogul Mowgli director Bassam Tariq, who was originally tapped to direct, departed from the film in 2022, just weeks before it was due to begin filming.
Since the film’s announcement, at least five other writers have worked on the ever-changing script. The role was previously played by Wesley Snipes in 1998’s Blade, which spawned two sequels in 2002’s Blade II and Blade: Trinity in 2004. He most recently reprised the role for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Lindo most recently turned heads for his portrayal as veteran musician Cornbread in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners alongside the likes of Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell and more.
In a four-star review of the film, James Mottram wrote for NME: “Sinners really comes to life via the musical numbers… Coogler uses it to prove just how influential the genre is via a spellbinding sequence that tracks through the juke joint, whirling around Preacher Boy and showcasing a hip-hop DJ, an MC and an electric guitarist. Such anachronisms add to the film’s feeling of fantasy but Coogler also tackles serious themes such as the oppression of Black Americans by white folk during this period.”
Coogler and longtime creative partner and composer Ludwig Göransson recently opened up on the film and its music in NME‘s Friends Like These interview series – check out the full chat here.
Coogler has since shared an update on his next project, confirming that he will direct a reboot of The X-Files and aims for it to be “really fucking scary”.
