Square Enix has announced that a new Kingdom Hearts game has been cancelled, despite multiple beta tests.
Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link was announced back in 2022 and had been due to launch last year. The mobile game would have featured an original story in the realm of the realm of Scala ad Caelum and been a cross between the mainline games and augmented reality titles such as Pokémon Go.
A series of beta tests took place last year but earlier today (May 14), Square Enix confirmed Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link had been cancelled.
“We have made the decision to cancel the development of Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link,” read a statement. “We wish to convey our heartfelt apologies to everyone who has been looking forward to the start of service.”
“Although we worked hard on developing and adjusting the game in the hope that it would be enjoyed by lots of players, we determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time, leading us to the decision to cancel development,” the note continued, before developers thanked “everyone who gave us their support and assistance with the multiple closed beta tests.”

“We are truly sorry to have to make this announcement,” Square Enix concluded. It’s not all bad news though, as the statement confirmed that the team are “hard at work” on Kingdom Hearts 4.
The follow-up to 2019’s Kingdom Hearts 3 was also announced back in 2022 but updates have been few and far between and Kingdom Hearts 4 doesn’t currently have a release date.
“I hope that ‘we’re working hard’ is not going to be all the news we get in 2025,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “It’s really hard being excited about anything post KH 3 at this point…,” added another.
In other news, Marvel’s next big game has been delayed. Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra will now launch in 2026 to allow developers time to add “more polish”.
