It’s been claimed that multiple Fallout games are currently in development following the success of the Amazon Prime Video adaptation.
The first season of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout was a huge success. Not only did the adaptation quickly become one of the most-viewed shows in the streamer’s history, but it also inspired a wave of people to try out the beloved video game series. However the last Fallout game released was 2018’s 76.
A new report from industry insider Jordan Middler (via TheGamer) claims that “multiple” games are currently in development. He didn’t go into specifics but did say one of the games was “the one you’re all wanting”, with many fans assuming that means a sequel to the fan-favourite Fallout: New Vegas is in the works.
Bethesda Studios has already confirmed plans for Fallout 5, but has said it won’t be released until after The Elder Scrolls 6. The follow-up to 2011’s Skyrim still doesn’t have a release date, with some fans worried Fallout 5 won’t be released until 2030.
Speaking about the delay between games, Bethesda boss Todd Howard said: “They do take a while, I wish they came out faster, I really do, we’re trying as hard as we can, but we want them to be as best as they can be for everybody.”
Work has already started on Fallout 5 though, with the Amazon Prime Video adaptation being rewritten to avoid spoiling certain plot points.
Earlier this year, Fallout: New Vegas writer John Gonzalez denied a sequel to the hit game was in the works after rejoining the studio that made the original game. “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Creative Director at Obsidian Entertainment,” he wrote on Linkedin.
“No, it’s not Fallout: New Vegas 2,” he added. In 2022, it was reported that Microsoft were in early talks with Obsidian for a New Vegas sequel and last year, lead developer Josh Sawyer said he’d be up for making a new Fallout game.
The second season of Fallout is due to air later this year and a third season has already been confirmed. According to star Aaron Moten, the plan is for the adaptation to run for as many as six seasons. “We’ve always known that we’re going to take our time with the development of the characters,” he explained.
Showrunner Graham Wagner has also confirmed fan-favourite video game character Mr. House will play a big role in the new season, while Macaulay Culkin will guest star as “a crazy genius-type character.”
In other news, Tennis ace Taylor Fritz has said his Wimbledon success is down to an online multiplayer game: “Someone on League Of Legends told me to go touch grass, so I did”.
