Donkey Kong Bananza minigame DK Artist has players flexing their creative talents – check out some of the best below.
Donkey Bananza was released last week and has quickly become a Game Of The Year contender. Created by a lot of the people behind galaxy-sized 3D adventure Super Mario Odyssey, Bananza is the first fully-3D Donkey Kong game since 1999’s cult-classic 64.
The game currently has a “universal acclaim” score of 9 via review aggregate site Metacritic, with fans praising the game’s mechanics, the storyline and the scope of the game. Even pop megastar The Weeknd has praised the DK adventure.
However, DK Artist has also been getting a lot of love online. Available via the Bananza title screen, the minigame lets players decorate a range of sculptures or create their own. DK Artist also utilises the Switch 2’s new mouse controls.

One fan spent two hours recreating the classic Game Boy advert, which saw DK crushed by the handheld console, while another made a seriously impressive version of Mario villain King Boo. Other fans have created versions of Metal Gear Solid’s Snake, Banjo from Banjo-Kazooie and Family Guy’s Peter Griffin, while both Mario and Luigi have been popular choices.
“I can see myself playing DK Artist for way longer than I should be,” wrote one fan. “I might have spent just as much time in DK Artist as I have playing the actual game so far,” said another.

In a four-star review of the game, NME wrote: “The first new Donkey Kong 3D platformer since 1999 is all about destroying your environment in the most entertaining way. The furry brute has to punch through to the world’s centre in a quest for yet more delicious bananas – and to help his popstar mate Pauline return home.
“Each step of their journey is colourful and compelling, and the animal-themed Bananza transformations keep the thumping action fresh. Add in an ace soundtrack, the addictive DK Artist minigame and more puns than you can shake a banana at, and Donkey Kong Bananza is a consistently brilliant good time. Mario who?”
Before the release of Bananza, Nintendo revealed it was working on a standalone Donkey Kong movie after his appearance in the record-breaking Super Mario Bros. Movie.
In other news, Nintendo has confirmed a bumper Pokémon Presents livestream for tomorrow (July 22) – head here to find out what you can expect to be announced.
