Elden Ring developers FromSoftware has confirmed the long-awaited two-player mode for spin-off Nightreign will launch this week.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is a co-op multiplayer spin-off that sees teams of three enter the twisted world of Limveld and survive two nights in the poisoned wasteland alongside daily boss battles.
When it launched earlier this year, a single-player mode was also included but, after complaints about how difficult it was to play Nightreign by yourself, developers made the game easier. They also promised they’d look at adding in a two-player mode.
Now FromSoftware has confirmed Nightreign’s duo mode will launch later this week. “Vanquish the night in tandem,” reads the brief teaser trailer, with the two-player mode set to go live on July 30.

Before Elden Ring: Nightreign launched in May, director Junya Ishizaki said the feature was “simply overlooked” during development and apologised for not including it.
Ishizaki went on to say the main focus was the three-player co-op but they also “put a lot of effort” into creating a solo-player experience. “In putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well,” he added.
As well as changes to how people play, developers have also added a rotating series of tough new bosses to the game as part of their post-launch improvements. The ‘Everdark Sovereigns’ are more powerful versions of existing bosses and can only be battled once the original version has been slain. Each ‘Everdark Sovereigns’ will only be available for one week at a time before they disappear, though developers have hinted that they may return in the future.
Additionally, patch 1.02 will include quality-of-life UI improvements, including more Relics filtering options.

In a three-star review, NME wrote: “Ultimately, Nightreign will live or die by the community that grows around it. If you loved the original Elden Ring, Nightreign is a playful reimagining that offers another 40 hours of epic combat. But if you weren’t sold the first time around, there’s nothing here that will change your mind.”
Earlier this month, streamer Stable Ronaldo locked himself in a padded cell for five days until he completed the original Elden Ring.
It’s also been confirmed that a movie adaptation of Elden Ring is in the works from A24 and director/writer Alex Garland. Game Of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin will serve as an executive producer on the project after helping create some of the lore for the game. He recently said he was confident the adaptation “won’t suck” after criticising HBO’s House Of The Dragon and Game Of Thrones.
In other news, it looks like Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox users could be getting more exclusive PlayStation games in the near future, if a new Sony job listing is anything to go on.
