The best-selling games of 2025 in Europe so far have been revealed and number one is a bit of a surprise.

The Game Business has shared a run down of the games that have sold the most units so far this year in Europe. The information comes via GSD, the official European charts company that tracks sales of PC and console games across the continent and includes both digital and physical copies.
According to their data, the best selling game in Europe this year is EA Sports FC 25 which originally launched in September 2024. However it seems that people have continued to pick it up this year, with only sales from January 1 counting towards GSD’s charts.
In at number two is Assassin’s Creed Shadows which launched in March and 2013’s Grand Theft Auto 5 is the third best-selling game in Europe this year. Rounding out the top five are Red Dead Redemption 2 and Hogwarts Legacy. In total, just eight games released in 2025 have made the list.
Mario Kart World has come in at ninth but Nintendo don’t share digital download sales with the GSD, so any copies of the game that were bundled with the Nintendo Switch 2 or bought via Nintendo’s own online store won’t be included in this rundown. The same applies to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which comes in at number 19 in the chart.
Smaller publishers typically don’t share their sales data with GSD either, which is perhaps why hit games such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Peak aren’t featured in the data.

Last month, Ubisoft released the long-awaited New Game+ mode for Assassin’s Creed Shadows and confirmed the first expansion Claws Of Awaji will launch in September. The DLC will add more than ten hours of content to the game including a “new region to explore” and a new chapter of the story. Players will also be able to access new weapons, abilities, outfits and take on previously unseen bosses and enemy factions.
