Daft Punk‘s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo co-wrote a song on Rosalía‘s new album, ‘LUX’.

Released today (Friday November 7), ‘LUX’ is Rosalía’s fourth studio album and the long-anticipated follow-up to 2022’s ‘Motomami’.

Earlier this week, fans began to speculate that Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo – one half of Daft Punk – could be involved, after the album was leaked two days ahead of the scheduled release date due to a cyber attack (as per Mixmag).

Now, it has been confirmed that the French musician and producer helped work on ‘Reliquia’, the second song on the tracklist, and credited as a “composer and songwriter” of original material.

On the track, Rosalía sings in Spanish, backed by classically-inspired instrumentals. “Me, who lost my hands in Jerez and my eyes in Rome/ I grew up, and learned shamelessness somewhere around Barcelona / I lost my tongue in Paris, my time in LA/ My heels in Milan, my smile in the UK,” she sings (translated to English), before moving into the euphoric chorus.

Like much of the album, there’s a strong classical string-led swoop before the track culminates in club-ready electronica.

Other artists with writing credits on ‘LUX’ include Caroline Shaw, David Rodriguez, Dylan Wiggins, Noah Goldstein and Ryan Tedder.

The album was given a glowing five-star review by NME, and praised for the singer’s ability to sing in 13 different languages, and push her sound into adventurous new horizons.

“Lux’ contains not just whole worlds, but astral planes, bridging the gap between Earth and whatever you believe heaven to be,” the review read. “[It] is an album that asks a lot of you, particularly spanning 18 tracks and one hour in length. But give it what it demands, and it will reward you many times over.

“It is an astonishing record – one that continuously stops you dead in your tracks, encourages curiosity, and builds a new world for you to dive into, while connecting to the sounds of all of Rosalía’s previous releases.”

‘LUX’ was announced last month, and previewed by the lead single ‘Berghain’, which saw Rosalía join forces with Björk and Yves Tumor. The Spanish singer-songwriter had previously worked with Björk in 2023 for the duet ‘Oral’.

As for Daft Punk, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter recently announced a 20th anniversary reissue of ‘Human After All Remixes’, and footage of them performing with Phoenix at Madison Square Garden back in 2010 was unearthed.

The French house icons confirmed their break-up in 2021, after a career spanning over 28 years.

Bangalter went on to perform his first solo DJ set in 16 years last month alongside Fred Again.., and founder of the Because Music record label, Emmanuel de Buretel, recently hinted that Guy-Manuel may be working on a solo album (via EDM).
