Finn Wolfhard on if there could be another season of ‘Stranger Things’

Finn Wolfhard has spoken about Stranger Things coming to an end, and said that he hopes there will be another season later down the line.

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is coming to Netflix in three parts this year. In a new interview with Variety, the cast spoke about how it felt to read through the last script together.

Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard and more opened up about bringing the series to a close nearly 10 years after the first episode aired, when Wolfhard said that he hopes that there will be more to come.

“I don’t think I’ll ever truly feel like it’s the end,” he shared. “The show will live on in so many ways that I hope it still feels relevant to people years down the line. As far as the actual end of the story goes, I don’t know.”

“I mean, there’s a reason why we ended it, and it’s done. But who’s to say that the Duffer [Brothers, creators], in 10 years, when they get another idea, they do it? It’s up to them,” he added. “I think it’s good that it’s the end, but part of me hopes it’s not.”

Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler in the show, also shared that he and his co-stars Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers) and Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) were the first to get emotional as they read the final script.

“It’s going to be interesting if that ever comes out, because it’ll be pretty embarrassing. The whole thing is just crying,” he added. “I was like, ‘I’m not going to cry. I’m going to feel very normal, and it’s going to be great.’ And then halfway through, I just started totally bawling my eyes out.”

Explaining why he thinks the show has resonated with so many fans since it first aired in 2016, Wolfhard said that he has noticed how a lot of viewers have “grown with the show in the same way that I got to grow with the Harry Potter movies.”

“I felt like I really knew those people, knew those characters. The way that you relate to them is so special,” he went on.

The first of the three parts of Stranger Things season five will arrive on Netflix on Thursday November 27 at 1am GMT. Chapter two will drop at 1am on Boxing Day (Friday December 26), and the finale will air at 1am on New Year’s Day in the UK. The latter will also be shown in over 350 cinemas in the US and UK.

Earlier this month, fans were given a first teaser of the new season when five minutes of the first episode was shared on social media.

Since then, Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour were pictured together on the red carpet following rumours that Brown had filed a claim of “harassment and bullying” against Harbour, and show creators confirmed that Joseph Quinn will not be returning as Eddie Munson for the upcoming season.

Gaten Matarazzo also spoke to NME about the show coming to an end, and shared that while the cast had “been saying goodbye for longer than we’ve actually been doing the show”, it still hit him “like a truck” when filming wrapped.

While the original series of Stranger Things will come to an end with season five, an animated spin-off of the series is set to arrive on Netflix next year, and will see the students of Hawkins, Indiana, head on a new set of adventures. The first trailer for the show was shared earlier this month, and it was confirmed that it will feature an entirely new cast.
