English Teacher debuted with critical acclaim when it was released last year, but it has been abruptly axed after two seasons.

Created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez, the FX series follows high school teacher Evan Marquez as he navigates the perils of school life alongside his own personal relationships.

Alongside Alvarez in the lead role, the FX series stars Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton, Carmen Christopher, Jordan Firstman, and Langston Kerman.

English Teacher’s first season debuted in September last year, with the second season landing in the US on September 25, 2025.

FX announced English Teacher would not be returning for a third season on November 12, 2025, just over a month and a half after the second season was released.

The show’s end was first reported by Deadline, but FX didn’t share any reason behind the show’s cancellation.

So why was English Teacher axed?

While there’s no official explanation from FX, the show’s cancellation comes after allegations against its creator. Brian Jordan Alvarez was accused of sexual assault by Jon Ebeling, who previously collaborated with him on the web series The Gay And Wondrous Life Of Caleb Gallo.

As reported by Vulture, Alvarez allegedly assaulted Ebeling while filming the web series. A spokesperson for Alvarez, however, has denied the allegations.

“Brian Jordan Alvarez’s interactions with Jon Ebeling were always entirely consensual – as numerous witnesses have attested,” a spokesperson for Alvarez told TheWrap.

FX released a statement after the allegations emerged in December last year: “We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show’s launch,” the network said. “Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns. We will have no further comment at this time.”
