Richard Gere says Donald Trump could “stop all this craziness” in Gaza in one day

Richard Gere has insisted that Donald Trump could end the ongoing conflict in Gaza in one day.

A recent report by The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) confirmed that a famine is taking place in Gaza, going on to acknowledge that the situation was “entirely man-made”. Several aid organisations have also accused Israel of “systematic obstruction” when it comes to food entering the Gaza Strip.

Since Hamas’ attack on Israeli citizens at the Nova Music Festival on October 7, 2023 – in which over 1,100 people were killed and 250 taken as hostages – multiple UN human-rights experts and UN bodies have stated that Israel’s military actions in Gaza amount to genocide, and the International Court of Justice has found claims of genocide plausible.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, over 61,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023. Israel rejects accusations of genocide and denies committing any war crimes, maintaining that its operations are lawful acts of self-defence.

Last night (September 17), Brian Eno held his ‘Together For Palestine’ charity show at London’s Wembley Arena, where over 150 artists and cultural figures united to show solidarity and raise funds for the people of Gaza.

One of the speakers at the show included Richard Gere, who called for direct action from politicians to end the conflict in Gaza.

Singling out Trump, he said: “There’s one man who could stop this in one day. He says, ‘I can stop wars in one day’, my President Trump. In one day, he could stop all this craziness.” He added: “[Benjamin] Netanyahu needs the US, needs Trump so badly. One day. If he wants a Nobel Peace Prize, this is the way to get it.”

Other stars who spoke at the event included Riz Ahmed, Guy Pearce, Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan, Benedict Cumberbatch and Florence Pugh.

The event, which was also available as a livestream, raised just under £1.5million for the ‘Together For Palestine Fund’, which will be distributed to Palestinian-led organisations such as Taawon, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and Palestine Medical Relief Service.

Ahead of last night’s show, Billie Eilish, Finneas, Joaquin Phoenix, Cillian Murphy, Steve Coogan and more featured in a new message for Together For Palestine.

Elsewhere, Marc Maron has hit out at the Trump administration after Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled “indefinitely” from ABC’s programming following the host’s recent comments about Charlie Kirk’s death.
