Jennifer Lawrence has revealed a Miss Piggy movie is in the works, prompting celebrations from fans online.
The beloved Muppets character, who has been a staple of the shows and movies for decades, has never had her own solo movie. However, during an appearance on Las Culturistas Podcast, Oscar winner Lawrence revealed she was working on the project with fellow star Emma Stone and Broadway sensation Cole Escola.
“I don’t know if I can announce this but I am just going to” she said. “Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.” When hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers asked whether Lawrence and Stone would act in the project, she said: “I think so. We have to… It’s fucked up [that we haven’t worked together].”
The news was met with delight with fans on X (formerly Twitter). “Best news i’ve gotten in years thank you Cole Escola” wrote one, with another saying of the news: “I don’t think a better sentence exists in the human language.”

“I can’t believe the pen behind Oh, Mary! is writing a movie for miss piggy it’s too good to be true its too perfect it’s too delicious” wrote one, referencing Escola’s hit Broadway play.

One person made a pun-filled casting suggestion, posting: “If Jon Hamm and Kevin Bacon aren’t cast in the new Miss Piggy movie, I don’t care about Hollywood anymore.”

Elsewhere, Miss Piggy’s reputation as a diva was brought up, with one person joking: “I hope this movie would not get scrapped halfway through since there are rumours that Miss Piggy is hard to work with.”

First created in 1955 by the late Jim Henson, The Muppets have made numerous hit shows and movies, including the beloved 1992 film The Muppets Christmas Carol; as well as the 2011 musical movie The Muppets and 2014 sequel The Muppets Most Wanted. Their most recent TV series was The Muppets Mayhem, released on Disney+ in 2023.
Last month, Fall Out Boy released a spirited version of ‘It Feels Like Christmas’ from The Muppet Christmas Carol.
