Millie Bobby Brown fires back at photographer who tells her to smile on ‘Stranger Things 5’ red carpet

Millie Bobby Brown has gone viral for firing back at a photographer who told her to smile on the red carpet for the Stranger Things season five premiere.

The moment occurred during the London premiere of the highly-awaited final season, which took place on Thursday (November 13).

Clips from the event show photographers yelling at the actress to smile for the cameras, to which she quickly responded: “Smile? You smile!” before exiting the carpet.

Brown’s comments have been likened to Chappell Roan confronting a photographer she said had previously been “disrespectful” towards her, while walking a red carpet last year.

At the time, Roan accused the photographer of “being disrespectful to me at the Grammys,” and claimed they had “yelled” at her during an after-party.

Earlier in 2024, the former NME cover star also hit back at a photographer who seemingly told her to “shut the fuck up” while at the 2024 MTV VMAs. Roan turned around and responded: “You shut the fuck up!”

Brown plays Eleven in the show, a character with telepathic and psychokinetic abilities, who becomes an adoptive daughter to David Harbour’s Jim Hopper, the local police chief.

Earlier this month, reports emerged that suggested that Brown had filed a claim against her on-screen adopted father before the filming of the fifth season, accusing Harbour of “harassment and bullying”.

Harbour is said to have faced an internal inquiry following Brown’s complaints, although the Mail On Sunday noted that there were no claims of sexual impropriety.

Days after the allegations broke, the actors were seen together on the red carpet in Los Angeles for the premiere of the show, with footage showing them smiling, laughing and embracing each other in front of the cameras.

The first portion of the final season will arrive on November 27 at 1am GMT, while the second will drop at the same time on December 26. Its finale then follows at 1am on New Year’s Day in the UK.

The first five minutes of the opening episode have now been released via Netflix’s social media channels, and you can watch them here.

The show’s final episode will also debut in over 350 cinemas in the US and UK, with the screenings starting at 5pm PT on December 31 – the same time as it drops on Netflix.
