Review aggregate site Metacritic has revealed the worst reviewed games of 2025 so far – check out the full list below.

It’s been a brilliant year for games. Back in March, Split Fiction became the best reviewed game of 2025 and the following month, it was beaten to the top spot by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
The likes of Hollow Knight: Silksong, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and Hades 2 have also all been praised by critics making the annual Game Of The Year discussion a tricky one.
However, review aggregate site Metacritic has also revealed the games that have been slated this year. According to a “curated” and “diverse” group of “highly respected critics”, the worst game released in 2025 is Build A Rocket Boy’s action-adventure shooter MindsEye which earned a Metascore of 37 out of 100, putting it bottom of the list of 404 games.
Also coming in as one of the worst games released this year is Nintendo Switch 2 launch title Welcome Tour, which earned a Metascore of 54 out of 100. “Nintendo has made a lot of odd decisions over the years but not including Welcome Tour with the Switch 2 might be the most bizarre,” NME wrote in a review.
A remastered version of the iconic Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles, ambitious Game Of Thrones: Kingsroad and cosy The Lord Of The Rings game Tales Of The Shire also feature among the worst games released this year.

Later today (November 17) The Game Awards will reveal the nominations for the 2025 ceremony via a special YouTube broadcast. Fans can watch here at 5pm GMT before the winners will be revealed on December 11.
Gamers have already criticised the Grammys for “snubbing” the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 soundtrack in The Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media category. “I would happily trade places,” wrote nominated Sword Of The Sea composer Austin Wintory. “That score is the *definition* of worthy!”
In other news, a video games analyst believes the recent Grand Theft Auto 6 delay could impact the planned release of new Xbox and PlayStation 6 consoles.
