Bowling For Soup and Wheatus rerecord iconic ‘Sonic’ anthem

Bowling For Soup have shared an updated take on their Sonic Unleashed anthem ‘Endless Possibility’ with a little help from Wheatus and Punk Rock Factory.

Sonic Unleashed was released in 2008 and saw the speedy blue hedgehog trying to restore peace to the world after Dr Eggman unleashed an ancient power known as Dark Gaia. Sonic also had to come to terms with his werewolf-like alter ego, the Werehog.

The game went on to sell more than 2.45 million copies but reviews were mixed. However the theme song ‘Endless Possibilit’y was universally adored and is considered one of the best Sonic anthems of all time.

The track was originally written by Sega’s Tomoya Ohtani and performed by Bowling For Soup. Seventeen years later, the pop-punk group has shared an updated take on the classic with help from viral covers band Punk Rock Factory and Wheatus guitarist Brendan Brown.

“I can’t tell you how many times I get asked about this song a day — and it’s more now than ever! I know people will always love the original; it’s part of their childhood. But I have to say, this new version keeps the song intact and, sonically (see what I did there), it’s gonna knock your socks off,” said Bowling For Soup vocalist Jaret Reddick in a press release.

“For so many people, this was their intro into the Sonic universe, and this song is a part of that exploration. It’s part of his journey in that video game. It’s like pop punk kids sitting at Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and listening to Pennywise and Goldfinger. It’s the same thing,” he told Rolling Stone.

“Sonic’s a little bit snarky and a little bit funny, and a little bit self-deprecating — but still smart and loving, which I think is very Bowling For Soup. It’s like, sure, okay, we’re the funny band, but there’s some substance there. Sonic has a little substance in his heart as well,” he added.

The track comes ahead of Bowling For Soup’s biggest ever headline gig at London’s Wembley Arena, which takes place December 13. Wheatus and Punk Rock Factory will support, so there’s every chance ‘Endless Possibility’ could get added to the set.

Meanwhile the fourth Sonic movie is set to hit cinemas in March 2027.

In other news, Roblox will soon require all users to verify their age before they can chat to other users after “concerns” about child safety on the platform.
