Comedian and TV host Rosie O’Donnell has revealed she has moved to Ireland in the wake of Donald Trump’s recent re-election.
Addressing the decision during a nine-minute TikTok video posted on Tuesday (March 11), she said she and her son Clay had moved to the country, and that she was in the process of applying for citizenship.
“Although I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child” she said, “And here we are”.
While Trump was not mentioned by name, O’Donnell made it clear that the political situation in the country has been the motivating factor. The celebrity has been a vocal critic of the billionaire even before his move to politics.
“I miss many things about life there at home and I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country and when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back,” she revealed. “It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically and hard for me personally as well. The personal is political, as we all know”.

She concluded: “I just felt like we needed to take care of ourselves and make some hard decisions and follow through”. She then gave advice to her followers, saying: “Protect your sanity as much as you can, and try not to swim in the chaos if possible… And I am hoping that we can turn things around, counting on you, all of you, to do what’s right. And I think deep down inside, we all know what that is”.
Rosie O’Donnell is not the only Hollywood name confirming their departure from the United States. Avatar director James Cameron recently called Trump’s win “sickening” and said his New Zealand citizenship is “imminent”.
